Testifying before the Madlanga Commission, former police commissioners Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Fannie Masemola detailed connections between Senzo Mchunu and various criminal figures.
In response, Mchunu's spokesperson issued a statement attempting to downplay the development:
"There are thousands of drug bosses with the Minister's WhatsApp number. That's not unusual."
The statement did not provide further clarification.
